Our Maine Coons are from American & European/Russian bloodlines & are 100% CFA pedigree cats. We show our cats within CFA to ensure we are producing breed-standard Maine Coons.
Pricing for kittens will range from $2,900-3,600. Certain factors determine pricing variation, including males, limited colors/pattern, etc. will be on the higher end of this range.
Our kittens are sold as indoor-only pets & go home at 16 weeks. We do not permit breeding of our cats & have made the decision to start altering kittens, microchipping, & administering all FVRCP vaccines. This can save prospective buyers $1000-2000+ in their first year of pet ownership by having these procedures already completed.
What comes home with your kitten?
Your take-home to-do list is very short:
I will help you get everything ready, discuss how to acclimate kitty, & be available for any questions that arise from now & the lifetime of your new pet.
Some breeders send home kittens at 12 weeks. We keep ours an additional month (with a hearty appetite), provide additional vaccinations, & have them sexually altered. These incur a lot of additional costs which ultimately save you a LOT of money the first year so you can just enjoy your kitten when he or she comes home, rather than worry about scheduling & paying for 3-4 vet visits (thereby exposing your kitten to more germs). Many of our buyers live in bigger cities where vet fees are outrageously expensive. We are alleviating extra expenses & work for you. These costs have been factored into our pricing using our local rates.
Maine Coons are the most popular & largest domestic breed of cat with males often reaching 18-25# & females typically 13-16#. They're not full grown until 5 years! Their personality is like no other cat; they're very social, often meeting you at the door when you come home, sleeping with you, & playing fetch. They love being a part of your family, are very personable, especially when owners interact as much as possible with them in a positive, loving manner. They WANT to be with you & are a great addition to a family with various pets, as well. Children should be supervised & taught proper interaction with cats & kittens. We have cat wheels that our kittens absolutely love & allows them to get exercise, which is very important. Adult cats are harder to acclimate to a wheel so, for us, it seems to be best to start young.
Maine Coons are NOT hypoallergenic so they should NOT be brought into a home with people who are allergic to cats. Like all long-haired cats, Maine Coons do require regular grooming; however, we find that our cats' coats are easier to groom given the raw, clean diet they're fed. Maine Coons would benefit from a bath annually with lots of massaging, especially in the springtime to remove the winter coat. We do not support shaving down the cat as this can be avoided with regular brushing (weekly brushing if on raw food or more often with commercially fed food). We keep greyhound combs handy for spontaneous mats that occasionally show up.
Declawing is cruel & not permitted under our terms of sale as well as being illegal in many states. Kitten nails grow fast & should be trimmed every 1-2 weeks along with providing multiple scratching post options. As cats grow, nails should be trimmed monthly. Consistent behavioral correction is a must, as with any cat, if you don't want them to scratch furniture, jump on counter, etc.
Maine Coons typically live 12-15+ years. Our breeding cats are tested against the genetic illnesses prone to Maine Coons, including HCM, PKD, SMA, FIV, & FELV, & 75+ other markers. This does not guarantee your kitten will never develop the disorders but when parents are negative, offspring are less likely to develop the diseases. It's important to maintain regular (at least annual) vet checkups & testing as needed, for the lifetime of the pet.
We practice stringent biosecurity to limit what our kitties are exposed to, especially as their bodies are building antibodies during the series of FVRCP vaccines they receive while in our care. For that reason, as well as the safety of my family, we do not permit onsite visits. We send pictures often & can do a video chat so you can watch your kitten grow & see our cattery live so you feel safe & confident when working with me. When it's time for you to take your kitten home, I meet you with your kitten.
Upper respiratory illnesses (& other contagious illnesses due to their developing immune system) are common in kittens, especially under stress & during the move to a new home with new people, pets, & visitors. A 2-week quarantine is critical & a stipulation of my sales agreement all buyers must adhere to. Cats, especially kittens & immunocompromised cats, are highly prone to respiratory illnesses, so it's important to protect them from unnecessary exposure. Adult cats' immune systems are less susceptible but even well-meaning visitors can be carriers of germs (including fungus), especially if they have their own pets. A good practice is to always have visitors remove shoes, wash hands & only wear clean clothes around your pets that haven't been exposed to other pets. Many illnesses like ringworm can be carried on clothing; adult cats don't always contract it (but still can be carriers) & will manifest in kittens easily. It's not fatal but a huge endeavor to remediate if your kitten were to contract that from a well-meaning visitor.
We do not support any other vaccines for your kitten(s) besides the FVRCP & Rabies. Never allow your vet to give more than one vaccine at a time due to potential complications, including death.
Cats are obligate carnivores so they require just meat, ground bone, & secreting organs that all provide the required protein, vitamins, & minerals for a healthy pet. Because we feel it’s the healthiest option for cats, we feed a raw diet using the 80-10-10 ratio. While we strongly encourage it, we do not require this of our buyers. We ask you continue this diet for a month if you transition kitty to another diet. It's very rewarding to see the benefits of a clean, unprocessed diet for our beloved, furry companions.
We offer an OPTIONAL $100 transition package with a portable/collapsible car kennel (see tab for favorite items), travel litter pan, 40# bag of pine pellets litter, additional 4# of food we feed here (if you choose to change them to something else, this will be enough to do that), more toys, & some other goodies. Using the same litter at your home that we do in the cattery helps their successful transition to using the litter pan at your home. It's important to keep as many things (smells, foods, litter, etc.) as consistent as possible to help kitty acclimate to his or her new home successfully. The biggest hurdle I have seen is using the litter box so the more we can do to set you up for success, the better your kitty will feel at home. The most important thing about helping your kitten adjust is just to be with them, love & play with them as much as possible. They will need boundaries & child-proofing your home, just like if you've ever had a toddler in your home just learning to walk!
**** IF YOU'D LIKE TO BE ON THE WAITING LIST, please fill out the Contact/Application tab with as MUCH detail as possible so I can really 'get to know you.' These kittens are my babies before they are yours & I want to find the perfect home/fit for each one of them. For that reason, applications with very little effort & detail are rejected. We do not have a constant supply of kittens so prospective families wanting a PoppyCoons Maine Coon Kitten should prepare to have a little bit of a wait period before bringing your new family member home.
We reserve the right to decline any application for any reason.
We like to get to know prospective buyers by phone to be sure our kittens will be a good fit for your family. Over the years, we want to be a resource for you & be sure your kitten is happy & healthy for a long time to come. I'm excited to watch your kitten grow up so please send or post pictures to us or our page as often as you'd like, minimally 1-2 times a year. This also helps us see how our lines develop so we can further improve our breeding program.
Once we kittens are a few weeks old, prospective buyers choose their kitten, by order of the wait list. Whereas many breeders assign kittens to them, we feel it's best to let you choose the kitten that grabs your heartstrings. Breeder has first pick if considering keeping any for our breeding program. Sometimes that can take 8+ weeks before we confirm which kitten we'll be keeping given how much they develop those first few months. Once you pick out your kitten, you must agree to all terms in our sales agreement & pay a non-refundable reservation fee of $500 which is applied toward the final price of the kitten. This reservation fee will NOT be returned if you do not pick up your kitten at the agreed upon timeframe or change your mind (find a kitten elsewhere). This is why we do not accept reservation fees until you actually sign the agreement & pick out your kitten.
* * * THANK YOU! * * *
We appreciate the trust you place in us & aim to earn your respect knowing the care & love your prospective new family member will receive before coming home to you. We have previous buyers who have graciously offered to be a reference on our behalf. Most of our families have more than one Maine Coon & we'll warn you ahead about the reality of "MAINE COON MATH!" One often leads to more!
For previous kittens who did leave unaltered, it is a violation of the breeding stipulation & will result in confiscation of cat & fines if cats are bred without permission. Proof of CFA registration will be provided to buyers if desired. Please visit the SpaySecure tab on our website discussing our spay/neuter partnership.
